SCARCE WWII JAPANESE TYPE  I  ITALIAN PRODUCED
BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# D4411. Bbl. 30 3/4". These contracted rifles were made by three different Italian factories for the Japanese Navy between 1938 and 1939. They were based on the Carcano action but were given Japanese features, including magazines, sights, and bayonet fittings. The rifles were not given prominent markings as to maker and model. This rifle features markings that appear to be "PB" under the bolt root and on the safety. The rear sight ladder has an "A" in a diamond at the inside top. The rear sight ladder is graduated to 2400 meters. Inverted "V" front sight. Straight bolt handle. Hardwood stock set with two-piece buttstock construction. CONDITION: Stock set has moderate wear, staining, and handling marks. The stock seam is notably open on the left side. There is a small loss of wood in the toe area. The metal retains approx. 50% of its original blue, turning patina with areas of light oxidation. Fair, worn bore, turning dark. (24-1425/RW). CURIO. $300-400.
