PISTOL WITH RAM'S HORN BUTT BY McLEOD. Cal. 52. NSN. The 6 1/4" steel bbl. is flared at muzzle and is 16 sided matching breech end. Center is round. Scroll engraving is on top. Flintlock, with back sliding safety, reinforced flat faced cock, integral semi waterproof pan, bridled frizzen and roller feather spring w/ bulbous finial, has some scroll engraving. "McLEOD" is under pan (most likely William, Aberdeen working 1876-80). Stock is nickel plated steel and features ram's horn butt with ball shaped pricker, ball trigger without guard, and steel belt hook. A simple thin steel ramrod is held by beaded pipe. Right side of butt is engraved with a stag's head rampant under a banner engraved "CALM". (Consignor's notes state "Clan McAdam"). Thistle terminated acanthus scroll engraving is on top of grip. CONDITION: appears unfired with only one or two frizzen strikes. Iron and steel parts with cleaning to bright. Nickel plate of frame shows thinning and marks on edges and some minor lifting, especially around crest on left side of grip. Bright shiny bore. Lock is crisp.
