Cal. 22 Rimfire Short, black powder. S# 125241. Bbl.3.18" octagonal. Mfg. 1860-1868. Single action, tip up frame revolver, w/ blued barrel & cylinder and silver plated brass frame. 7 shot unfluted cylinder. Round blade front sight. Rear notch integrated into cylinder stop. Checkered hammer spur. Serial number on butt. Top of barrel marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MA" on top. Cylinder marked w/ 3 patent dates: "April 3, 1855, July 5, 1859, Dec 18, 1860". Serial number range indicates 2nd issue, spanning from 11672-126361 w/ this example falling very late in the production range. It shares features w/ 3rd Issue, such as the 3 patent dates on the cylinder instead of the typical 2 dates, however the cylinder remains non fluted in the 2nd Issue and fluted in 3rd Issue. It also has the 2nd Issue octagonal barrel rather than the 3rd Issue round barrel. Dark brown hardwood grips. CONDITION: Finish remains consistent w/ light uniform thinning while retaining solid coverage. Grips remain free of any visible blemishing beyond original finish thinning in some spots, retaining their dark brown color. Timing appears correct. Clean bore w/ some darkening starting in grooves, retaining strong rifling. (01-23934/JZ). ANTIQUE.$200-400.
