An example of this belt is seen on page 665 in "U.S. MILITARY HOLSTER AND RELATED ACCOURTREMENTS" by Edward Scott Meadows. The book states "During the Spanish-American War, Infantry rifle cartridge belts were modified for cavalry use by stitching double loops for 12 rounds for .38 caliber pistol cartridges to the right of the buckle... A chape with a brass saber hangar was sewn and riveted to the left side of the belt.". Overall: 40". Blue khaki with loops for 30-40 Krag cartridges & 38 Colt pistol cartridges along with brass fittings. CONDITION: the belt has a very good overall appearance. Saber hanger has mustard patina & leather showing flexing. Brass clamps show verdigris in scattered spots. Very good khaki showing tight stitching. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows.
