SPECTACULAR HENRY NOCK DOUBLE BARREL FLINT PISTOL
CIRCA 1790. Cal. 25 Bore (approx. .577). NSN. Dbl. bbl. flint pistol of the highest quality. 7" Rnd. twist bbls. w/ brown striping. Central rib engraved "LONDON". Patent breech inlaid w/ gold band. Gold lined touch holes. A stand of arms is engraved on the breech irons. Elegant lock plates have feathered edges w/ inwardly curved tails to match contour of stock. Unique cocks have scrolled tails & are engraved en suite w/ beveled feathered borders. Stand of arms engraving at back portion of plates & "H NOCK" (Henry Nock 1741-1804) is under waterproof gold lined pans. Frizzens are unbridled w/ patent rollers & have feathered borders. Iron trigger guard is very nicely finished & engraved w/ panoply of arms on bow w/ feathered border & stylized urn & pineapple finial. Finely engraved silver rear thimble, silver oval keyway escutcheons & void silver oval thumb plate complete furniture. The trigger guard & forward iron thimble are fire blued. Wood ramrod has brass tip & fitted iron screw on other end. European walnut stock has wraparound checkering at wrist w/ zig zag border on top. Henry Nock was not as well known as a couple of his contemporaries such as Durs Egg, for mfg. of non military arms. The quality represented here shows his ability to make the most elegant & high quality firearms. CONDITION: extremely fine. Bbls. retain virtually all of their bright striping w/ wear at muzzle end. Breech, lock, cocks & frizzens retain strong traces of case colors w/ balance silver/gray patina. Trigger guard & frizzen springs retain approx. 30% of their bright fire blue w/ balance silver/gray patina. Stock is fine, well fit, sharp edges, minor cosmetic blemishes. Mechanically like new.
