MUSKET. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 42". Model 1816 flintlock musket, mfg. by Springfield in 1832. Lockplate is marked with a patriotic eagle above "US" with "SPRING/ FIELD/ 1832" marked vertically at the rear. Bbl. exhibits an encircled "P" proof, above an eagle head proof, and a "V" proof, with "1832" stamped on the bbl. tang. Wood stock exhibits two inspector cartouches on the left flat. Brass blade front sight. Iron ramrod. Rifle is fitted with a white leather sling. CONDITION: metal components exhibit oxidation overall, with heavy pitting present on the buttplate. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand and holds at both the half-cock and full-cock positions. Stock exhibits scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with a crack stemming from the upper sideplate screw at the breech. (01-25429/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
