MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 46335. Bbl. 21 5/8". Rifle has been assembled on an early production(1911) receiver. The S# has an added vertical mark at each end, resembling "1". The bbl. has been shortened & a one-piece 1903A3 front sight base & blade have been installed. The original rear sight is not present, however, a late production Lyman #48 receiver sight has been mounted on the bridge. This sight has a short slide, graduated to 60 points & is fitted w/ target knobs. The sight S#s are non-matching. Rifle is fitted w/ a Remington marked bolt. The mag. cutoff has been altered to clear the sight windage knob. The pistol grip walnut stock w/ grasping grooves is from a Springfield 22 Training Rifle & does not have the recess for the mag. cutoff & is mortised on the right side for the original style Lyman Model 48 sight, leaving a gap in the wood. The bbl. band has a notably large clearance over the bbl., but fits the stock correctly. Coarse checkered trap buttplate. Green nylon Vietnam era military sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: the stock has a very good original arsenal finish w/ light wear, scratches & a number of scattered handling marks. Metal has a mix of amatuer gunsmith blue w/ thinning wear & spots of light oxidation. Bbl. has notable loss of finish prior to chamber area. Bbl. has a very good bright & shiny bore. (24-6926/RW). MODERN. $400-600.
