SUPERB COLT MODEL 1911A1 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL,
FROM 1942. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 848050. Bbl. 5". Although Colt was the second largest manufacturer of 1911A1 pistols during WWII, everyone likes Colts! This standard configuration example has the standard 2-line address on the left side of the slide, referencing Colt's patent numbers, interrupted by a Rampant Colt, followed by Colt's address in Hartford, CT. The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY" over the S# "848050". "P" inspection marking on the top of slide and left side of frame, along with the ordnance wheel on the right side of the frame, and the inspector "W.B." enclosed in a rectangle on the left frame above the trigger cutout. Fitted with correct brown plastic grips with the large reinforcement rings around the screw heads and internal ribs, and a standard blued mag. with 5 indicator holes marked with an "R" on the top of the toe, with a "C-P" on the underside of the toe. Disassembly shows a Colt bbl. with a "P" on the left lug below the denomination "COLT 45 AUTO". A "G" is in front of the lug. MAGS: 1 7-rd. CONDITION: 99%+ original light parkerized finish. Although none of the "P" markings or the ordnance wheel seems to break the finish, the corner of the "W.B." box is in-the-white. Condition of the grips are comparable to the rest of the pistol. Excellent mag. showing only minor insertional wear. A great looking and all original Colt 1911A1 from WWII! PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (24-702/LMA). CURIO. $3,000-4,500.
