WW2 U.S. Savage lend-lease British bolt action sniper rifle with No. 32 Mk III scope. Used from WW2 into the early 1960's until they were replaced by the L42 series sniper rifles. The left butt-socket is marked 'OC1543 small flaming bomb England", the left receiver side wall is marked "S No.4 Mk I 1941" The sniper scope is marked 'Tel. Stg. No.32 Mk III OS. 2039 A. AK&S No. 116985 144 broad arrow". The scope has the standard British post and cross hair reticle pattern. No mount. The underside of the fore stock is stamped "17C62" very feint. The top flat of the wrist is stamped with scope number '0122', feint. Matching serial number on the bolt handle. The comb is fitted with a wood cheekpiece secured with two wood screws. 10 rd magazine, aluminum buttplate with trapdoor. No triangular sling swivel, that started Nov, 44. Rear sight marked "S". The underside of the butt stock, behind the grip is stamped "S51", indicating conversion by Holland & Holland.(Feint) It is not a problem that the T & TR are omitted - in 1942 the marking system had not been standardized. Very few Savage's were converted to snipers, and every one we've seen is marked like this rifle. The bore is excellent/.bright, action is crisp/tight, the matte black/blue finish is very good overall, with some scratches/edge wear, some handling loss on the receiver. and the wood is good/sound with scratches/dents. Some minor edge wear/scuffs on the scope, turning a brown patina, very clear optics. Brass fittings. The scope has the standard British post and cross hair reticle pattern. Original No. 32 Mk I scope mounts are available for around $150.00. Correct web sling.
