Scarce Marlin Model 336 SC Lever Action Carbine, in .219 Zipper cal., #P79642, (additional #38717 stamped in front of serial number), 20'' round ''JM'' marked barrel, blue finish, smooth pistol-grip walnut stock and forend, black plastic Marlin buttplate; both the stock and forend have holes from sling swivel studs that are no longer present, one of which originally held the Marlin bullseye, now missing. Brass beaded front sight with hood, folding semi-buckhorn rear sight with elevator, and a hammer extension. Topped with a Alpen Kodiak 3-9x40 rifle scope on Leupold mount; scope with a matte black finish and duplex reticle. Condition is good overall retaining approx. 80%-85% original factory thinning and toning blue. Metal surfaces with general scattered specks of reddish brown oxidation. Left side of mag tube appears to have been cleaned. Wood shows age and wear that is consistent with the overall condition of the rifle, which includes a few moderate indentations and other handling marks, the most noticeable on the bottom edge of the forend; right side of the wrist with a wood filler type repair where it abuts the upper tang. Crisp lever action, hammer and trigger operate smoothly, bore is bright with strong rifling showing a few small blemishes near muzzle. Scope is excellent with clear optics. Only 3,230 of these Carbines were mfg'd between 1955-1960, with this particular example having been mfg'd in 1957. Est.: $800-$1,200. (C&R)
