Seaver Derringer Found at Alamo site .41 Cal
NVSN. This Philadelphia style derringer was made in about 1850's by Ebenezer Seaver. Seaver was a gunsmith and blacksmith born December 27, 1782 in Swanzey, Cheshire, New Hampshire. Records show that he and his family were “warned out” of Newbury, Vermont on October 17, 1809, before finally settling in Vergennes, Vermont. He died October 7, 1862. Found at the northwest corner of the original north wall of the Alamo during excavation of the basement area for the new post office in the early 1930's. It was once on display at the Alamo museum with letter from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas acknowledging the return of the pistol to Dr. Michael Duffy, prior owner. Comes with great great documentation, notarized affidavit, diagrams of the location. Relic condition, still retaining it's German silver fittings, action works, 2" chip out of the wood by the left upper tang, pitted. 3 1/2" barrel, top flat of barrel marked "Seaver". Although the gun was not present at the battle in 1836, it is still a very interesting derringer. NRA Condition-Fair as Antique Firearm.
