Set of 3 framed prints of Wolf Eyes by Audrey Menefee
Audrey Menefee comes from a rich family heritage in the Arts. Her great grandparents, parents, sister, aunts, uncles and cousins were all professionals in the field of fine art, music and photography.
After graduating high school in San Diego, California in 1967, she made the decision to utilize private lessons instead of college. Much of the art at that time was predominantly Psychedelic and Pop Art. Audrey's love of art was inspired by the style of the old masters. The layering of paint to achieve that rich, deep feel is what appealed to her. Since the style of art in college courses were not the direction she wanted to go in, she opted to go with private lessons to develop her own style in art.
Wildlife was her forte for many years. Then she added portraits to her body of works. Commissions have been her mainstay for many years.
A lifetime of painting has made for many accomplishments in art. Audrey's paintings have hung in the homes of celebrities, museum, clubhouses and galleries. She has been recognized worldwide and has worked in the United States, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Japan and the Virgin Islands.
National Wildlife Federation contracted her three times to sell artwork in their catalog. The Egg Industry commissioned her to do a painting for a Mastercard. Zoo Atlanta and J& B Scotch commissioned paintings for a fundraiser. Her work has been published in Better Homes & Garden, the cover of Taxi magazine (5x), a spread in Season magazine, Golf Living Digest,Livingspace, Ebony, Designer Direct, the cover of Georgia Agriculture, Living with Soul(TV show), including various commercial projects, brochures and related designs.
Currently, Audrey is working with PPAATH, (Protect and Preserve African American Turf History), to raise awareness and give tribute to the forgotten African American Jockeys, who were the foundation of the jockeys of the Kentucky Derby from 1875-1902.
The Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in Louisville, Kentucky has on display her painting of Isaac Murphy, 1861-1896, one of the forgotten jockeys of that era. Isaac Murphy was the winner of the Kentucky Derby three times.
In 2016, Audrey was commissioned by Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby, to do a painting of William "Billy" Walker, 1860-1933. Billy won the Derby in 1877. The commissioned painting is now being displayed in the new addition of the Stakes Room. Audrey has accumulated many other accomplishments in art.
