Peterson of Denver, circa late 1880s, with two-line Peterson marking stamped on bottom barrel flat ahead of forestock, #C7709, .45-70 cal., 24.5'' heavy octagonal barrel, two-line Sharps 1852 patent date on right side of receiver, Sharps 1848 patent date in two lines on left side. Double set triggers. Top barrel flat has hole drilled for unknown purpose ahead of adjustable buckhorn rear sight. Originally finished in blue and case hardened metal. Oil-finished walnut stocks, sling bar and ring removed, steel crescent buttplate. Weight is 12 lbs. Condition is very good having a smooth age patina mixed with some original barrel blue with battering to upper receiver tang; case hardening has mostly silvered out. Stocks were reworked from rifle stock, are solid showing age, use and minor losses. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is bright. Est.: $1,500-$2,000. (Antique) (Joe Poyer collection)
