Sharps New Model 1863 32 Ga SN: C27676
Unique and interesting antique breechloading shotgun chambered for 32 gauge shells, originally produced as a percussion breechloader circa 1863-1866. Appears to be a period experimental conversion utilizing a spring loaded firing pin, an internal striker, and handmade cocking lever in place of a hammer. Features a blued 22” round tapered barrel, German silver blade front sight, R.S. Lawrence flip-up ladder style rear sight graduated to 800 yards, sling bar with saddle ring, case hardened receiver, smooth trigger, j shaped finger lever with sliding lock, handmade cocking lever with checkered thumb piece, smooth walnut forend secured with a single barrel band, and straight grip shoulder stock with metal carbine buttplate. Matching serial numbers are found on the receiver and barrel. Other markings: Barrel - “SHARP’S RIFLE/MANUFG. CO./HARTFORD CONN”, “NEW MODEL 1863”, “W”, “F”, “71”, “MNM”, “J”, “4”, “G” & “X”. Receiver - “C.SHARPS’ PAT./SEPT.12 1848”, “C. SHARPS’ PAT./OCT. 5TH 1852.” Sling Bar - “W”. Buttplate - “R”. Forend - “S” & “C”. & Stock - “MNM”, “TWR” & “DFC” cartouches. Shotgun retains approximately 85% of its factory blued and case hardened finish showing honest wear. Action is mechanically sound with the cocking lever having some play & semi-stripped hammer screw, the bore is bright and the walnut stocks are near fine with a hairline crack on the right side of the forend (also missing forend screw) & minimal blemishes on the buttstock.
Condition is NRA Fine as altered.
