SN: 86211 Civil war era percussion falling block single shot carbine, converted to fire a .50-70 centerfire cartridge. Following the war In 1867, the U.S. Government contracted with Sharps to convert 31,098 carbines and 1,086 rifles from percussion to metallic cartridge breechloaders. Features a 22" barrel, sling bar with ring, lever locking latch, blade front sight, ladder rear sight that flips down to present a simple "U" notch. Bore is very good - as relined. Metal surfaces are uniformly brown patina over gray, with shallow pitting in places on barrel. Stock is fair condition, mostly solid with cracks running from top tang and from rear point of lock plate back several inches; much denting and some small gouges. Handguard is fair with cracks at rear and wood loss near barrel band. Marked "SHARPS PAT" / "SEPT 12TH 1848" on receiver left; "W.O. CODEY" on barrel top and butt left, stamped in block letters.
