Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector Second Model Double Action Revolver, #20828, .44 S&W Spec. cal., 6.5" barrel, blue finish, checkered diamond center walnut grips, lanyard ring, round blade front sight, standard notched rear sight, smooth color case hardened trigger, and checkered hammer. Frame and yoke with matching assembly numbers (84510). Barrel, cylinder, and extractor are numbered to the gun. One of the Second Model .44 Hand Ejectors that was built on a 1917 frame with "(eagle's head)" inspection mark on the inside, near the assembly number. Shipped to S.C. Melzer & Co., August 14, 1923; with factory letter signed by S&W Historian Roy G. Jinks. Letter does not specify any of the revolver's features. In unnumbered one-piece maroon "Patent/Display" box. Condition is very good retaining approx. 92%-94% factory blue. Metal with tiny nicks and scratches from handling and use. There is mild pitting visible on the left side of the frame, as well as some small specks to the right side. Factory lettering is clear. Approx. 55%-60% muted case colors remain. Grip checkering is primarily sharp, smooth borders show a small amount of typical light handling marks, no major blemishes. Action cycles smoothly and locks up securely. Bore is very good, bright, rifling is clearly defined. Box shows edgewear and a gouge to top of the lid, end label is clear. Est.: $1,500-$1,800. (C&R/PPT)
