US martial top break single action revolver manufactured circa 1875, developed for the US Army with input from Major George Schofield, based on the Model 3 revolver. "First Model" Features blued finish, 7" barrel, six shot fluted cylinder, two piece walnut grips. Bore is poor to fair, grayish colored with traces of rifling. Metal surfaces are mostly bare metal, traces of finish in protected areas, mostly smooth with some small dents & some rough finish from many tiny pits. Sideplate retains much dark blued finish, matte textured, appears a later replacement, fair fit to frame. Several pins across frame are a bit short. Screw heads generally show damaged slots. Grips are fair to good, solid, with added checkering in a diamond bordered pattern. Action is smooth with good lock up. Cylinder lifts up when action opened, needs repair. Markings are readable, "US" on butt is faint. Condition is NRA Very Good as antique *** Antique Firearm ***
