South Dakota Bighorn Auction License
2021 Bighorn Sheep Hunting Season Details:
• Season will run from: September-December 2021
• Auction License will be valid in the three hunting units
o 1) Custer County (BH2) – Elk Mountain Area (herd shared with Wyoming)
o 2) Eastern Pennington County (BH3) – Adjacent to Badlands National Park (Record Ram harvested from this hunting unit in fall 2018 scoring 209 1/8)
o 3) Hell Canyon (BH4)
• Auction License will be valid for the 2021 hunting season
• A person can purchase the auction tag for another person. However, once the application to receive the license is filled out, the license cannot be transferred.
• Hunter will be allowed to use legal weapon of their choice (rifle, archery, or muzzleloader), as long as minimum requirements are met for that weapon.
• Shoulder-held firearms with minimum of 1,000 foot-pounds at muzzle
• Muzzleloading rifle require a projectile of .44 caliber or larger, Muzzleloading handguns require a projectile of .50 caliber or larger
• Minimum of 30 pounds of pull and no telescopic sites when using a bow

• Governor Noem is also extending a personal invitation to the successful bidder to attend one or both events – to either saddle up and ride the open range and/or serve as my special guest and hunt alongside me. The roundup takes place September 24 (in Custer State Park) and the hunt takes place October 22-24 (in Sioux Falls).
