Special Order Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector First Model (Triple Lock) British Target Double Action Revolver, #3971, .455 Mark II cal., special order 7.5" pinned barrel, blue finish, checkered diamond center walnut grips, round blade front sight, special order military drift adjustable target rear sight, color case hardened hammer and checkered trigger. There is a small "(crown)BV" British proof mark on right side of the frame; "(crown)BV" and "(crown)BP" proofs on left side of barrel and on cylinder. Barrel address is located on top of barrel, which has no other markings. Frame and yoke with matching assembly numbers (961). Barrel, cylinder, yoke lock and extractor are numbered to the gun. Grips are not numbered. Shipped to Chas. Osborne, Birmingham, England, March 15, 1909; with factory letter signed by S&W Historian Roy G. Jinks. Letter states that this revolver was mfg'd in a special production run of 7.5" barreled .455 Mark II revolvers with a military drift adjustable rear sight. This order was for 8 units total, with a previous group having shipped earlier in the year. Condition is very good retaining approx. 75% original factory blue. Metal with general moderate nicks and scratches, and some mild frosting. Front and back strap have worn to a bare gray gun metal. Hammer and trigger retain approx. 70%-75% case colors, strongest on the hammer. Factory lettering and proof marks are clear. Grips have a few surface dents and mild flattening to the checkering detail, both show wear that is consistent with the overall condition of the revolver. Action cycles smoothly and locks up securely. Bore is very good, bright, showing moderate wear, rifling is clearly defined. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (C&R/PPT)
