Springfield 1841 rifle converted to percussion with patchbox filled; 36” barrel, front band and spring Confederate altered; woven and leather sling, in overall good to very good un-cleaned condition with crisp action and very good woodstock as altered; accompanied by a socket bayonet with “PJ” (Phillip Joseph) initials and “B 4680” stamped on the right side of the socket. In Murphy’s Confederate Rifles & Muskets book, pages 444 and 445, information is provided on this typeof alteration as well as a photo of an example gun (Plate 4). Consignor’s notes indicate this rifle was obtained from a Shreveport, LA resident, 80 years old at the time of our consignor’s purchase some 50-60 years ago. (Antique). Est.:$1,250-$2,500.
