DO NOT FIRE! Springfield 1903 .30 Rifle in very good condition. This is one of the rare, HIGHLY COLLECTABLE early production heat treating issue guns. The first 800,000 Springfields and first 300,000 Rock Island guns were deemed unsafe to fire. The issue was found to be with the heat treating process. Specifically, armory employees in charge of the process were using the “eyeballing” method to measure temperatures. Heat treating is exceptionally important to the rifle’s success. Too little and the metal won’t be hardened; too much and it will become brittle, leading to catastrophic failures. So most were destroyed making them very hard to find and very collectible. Cartouches includes "SA SPG" in a rectangle and "P" in a circle. Barrel stamped SA 1942 MFG 1917 C&R Eligible S/N:676710
