Springfield Armory 1898 30-40 Krag #463825
Sporterized US military bolt action rifle, circa 1903. Very close to the end of US Krag production. Barrel shortened to 22", proper length for a carbine, with proper type front sight base and rifle height pinned blade re-mounted. Features blued or blackened finish, model 1902 tangent rear sight (no "C" markings observed), rifle type screw tensioned barrel band (installed backwards), no sling bar, manual safety, magazine cut-off. Stock appears to be a highly modified rifle stock, thinned at wrist, shortened and shaped with a semi-schnabel tip, rear swivel inlet filled with a plain piece of steel. Butt trap door is pushed in slightly, not opened for inspection, might need buttplate removed to get it open. Bore is good condition, mostly bright with a lightly frosted almost cloudy appearance. Retains 30% finish, bluing on barrel fading and turning gray, other parts showing much bare metal or a thin patina brown color. Wood is solid as heavily re-shaped, finger groove barely visible, now with a much slimmer profile.
Condition is NRA Good+ (as modified)
