Starr four barrel pepperbox derringer, .32 cal., 2-3/4” barrels, brass frame, wood grips, #1 under barrel group. This gun is in overall very good condition showing a bright barrel assembly with taffy colored patina to the brass frame; good action, fair bores, very good markings on left frame side plate, very good to near fine grips displaying beautiful graining. A better-than-usually-found example of the Starr derringer. Per Flayderman’s, approx. 2,000 manufactured between 1864 and 1869. Although serial numbers were a combination of letters and digits, possibly manufactured in batch numbers, there is no direct method to determine period of manufacture by number however, any gun numbered “1” is always of interest to knowledgeable collectors.
