Interesting gun with gun starting out as a Stevens Ideal Walnut Hill No. 49. Rifle is fitted with a 30" blued octagon barrel in 22 long rifle caliber marked at breech "W.S. Brown/Pittsburgh, Pa." and the underside of barrel is stamped "Wm. G. Matthews". A William Matthews is listed in the Seller's book as a Gunsmith working in San Leandro, California. Did he fit the barrel or is this an unknown shooter/owner name? Barrel is fitted with Wind gage front sight with plugged rear sight provision and is drilled for scope mounting with Soule Vernier tang sight. Case-hardened 44-1/2 deep chisel floral engraved action with Schuetzen double set triggers and four finger loop. Walnut checkered splinter Schnabel forearm drilled for palm rest. J.T. CONDITION
Retains 90% original barrel blue with edges turning silver. Action has sharp engraving with case colors in corners. Stock has 50% original varnish with checkering worn flat and usage marks and dings. Good bore and mechanics.
