Stout and heavy blade bowie knife made for Australian market marked “Rob’T Sorby, Sheffield” with kangaroo on right forward portion of the blade in hot stamp at the time of forging. Measures 16 ¼” overall with a 11 ¼” clipped point blade that is from thick stock of almost ¼” at the widest point and ¼” taper to the edge. Small brass guard with stag grips. In good condition showing use and carry. Thin leather scabbard made in a later period. Sorby was an early maker known for dags and trade knives. This Bowie would have been just the type carried by English explorers to Australia and frontiersman on the outback during the 19th century. Est.:$900-$1800
