Plain Mempo is a general term for these half mask-like face guards of warriors jutting chin and signalizing determination. The neck protection (Suga)composed of three plates (Lame) Suspended loosely by white laces. Exterior black, interior red lacquering. Pegs for nose peice. Has Ase-Hagashi-No-Ana in chin. (perspiration dripping holes), 32 plate black Tetsu (Iron) Suji Bachi helmet, raised ribs where plates join, each plate is connected with six hammered rivets. There is four protruding rivets around the crown.The Tehen (Central top piece) is five layered. and the Mabisashi (Visor) has three large rivets, and the traditional red lacquer on the underside. Has no Haraidate, fore crest holder, but has Wakidate-No-Tsunomoto, side crest holders. Agemaki bow attached to ASgemaki No Can (Loop) at rear of helmet. Shikoro (neck protector) has four leather plates (Lame) closely secured with pairs of blue slik laces in the Sugake style, the top lame is turned back to form the Fukigayeshi, covered with Dutch leather, missing Mons. Its overall shape is known as akoda-nari due to its resemblance to the akoda, a squash-like fruit. Overall very good condition. Has liner, & chinstrap. Black Lacquered Do (Cuirass), seven plate breast plate with metal coiled Dragon Mon, about 6 inches in diameter, hinged four plate side plates, & eight plate back plate, hammered rivet construction. 6 Lame Sode (Shoulder Guards) connected with with pairs of blue silk laces in the Sugake style. Armored sleeves (Kote) is protection for the arms, & hands. Shoulder area consists of chain mail with six intergraded lacquered metal plates, six long lacquered metal plates on the forearm connected with chain mail, and three lacquered plates with chain mail on the hands. The thigh guards (Haidate) are attached to the Do (Cuirass by means of double, & triple blue and white silk laces, consisting of seven sections of five lacquered metal plates each (Lame) Pair of shin guards (Suneate) with five lacquered metal plates each, padded material with images of a dragonfly, & black leather, loops intact. The stitching on one of the plates has come loose. Comes with a EDO period Gusoku Bitso (Armor Box) Black lacquered box with gold motifs, measures 25 1/2" H, 17" W, & 14 1/2" H., two large lifting handles, engraved metal fittings on corners. There are large family crests (Mons) Eight total with two on the lid, two front & back, and one on each side. The Mon is Maru Chigai Takanoha, the crossing of a pair of hawk feathers. Overall sound, but the lid is cracked with some damage to the lacquer.
