“The Solitary Hunter” - Leopard (28”x34” Framed Print)
Signed by Artist: Simon Combes (1940-2004) Dated: Dec 77 Numbered: 187 /1500
A jumbled mass of densely forested peaks and ridges rise to more than 9,000 feet at the edge of Kenya’s Rift Valley. Stalking from the trees of the Ngurman Mountains, this leopard, with his arrogant independence, ruthless hunting skills and beautiful coat epitomizes all that is feline. Moody and ethereal,
The Solitary Hunter provides us with an awe-inspiring image of one of the most elusive and secretive predators found on the continent of Africa.
Simon Combes was well known for his paintings of African wildlife and dedication to conservation. In February 2005, the Artists For Conservation Organization created a conservation award in the artist's honor.
In the three decades since, he achieved worldwide success, countless commissions and many prestigious awards—including the Society of Animal Artists' Award of Excellence. He was chosen "Artist of the Year" for the 1994 Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Show. The success of his work has aided Combes as he seeks to raise awareness of wildlife conservation; he has made contributions and served on the councils of several conservation organizations. In June 2003 Simon Combes was appointed Project Director Kenya for the UK based Conservation organization The Rhino Rescue Trust.
Simon Combes is the author and artist of two critically-acclaimed books Great Cats and An African Experience.
