WW1 British Indian Army No1 India Pattern Lance. Lance spear point is 12 1/2" in length. Both marked No1 IP, along with CO for Cossipore Arsenal, IG for Indian Govt plus dated 1915, with Broad Arrow. Riveted to a wooden shaft this in turn is fitted into a Bamboo lance. Metal point to tip, overall length 108 1/2". Steel socket terminals is stamped "17 L". Correct red & white pennants, white leather wraps are newer replacements. The outbreak of the First World War found the 17th Lancers in Sialkot in India. In October, 1914, the Regiment was deployed to the western front as part of the 1st Indian Cavalry Division, arriving in mid-November. From the Joe Musso Collection.
