U.S. Arms Co. (Chicago, Illinois) .22 caliber, knife pistol circa 1915-1916 marked-“PATENT PAID FOR” and “DEFENDER” on both blades. Approximately 3 1/8” in overall length when folded, including original chamois leather case. Invented by L.L. Rogers, Boston, Mass. And showing 1.5” and 1.25” folding blades with a German steel body and steel blades. A research folder accompanies the lots with 1916 era advertisements in outing magazines showing this type of oddity. Also, a newsletter from the automatic knife resource guide & newsletter with an article on this subject weapon. A handful of L.L. Rogers knife/pistols of this type are known (less than 5) and it is the only example marked, “PATENT PAID FOR” indicating early production or prototype for display. This piece has been in local family since before WWII. The condition is near fine but action needs repair and not working. The side scales are removable by screws making repair relatively simple. Classified as curio and relic under National Firearms Act Section IV-(3A-Pg.90-91). Est.: $2,000-$4,000.
