Two Items total. Original Civil War era. 1) Identified 1861 pattern black leather Cartridge box with brass "U.S." plate. held 40 .58 caliber cartridges for the Springfield rifle. has all 4 tins, no shoulder strap, overall good/sound condition, but the closure loop is broken. One of the tins contained a very old piece of paper with "Co. F 10th N.Y. Heavy Artillery" written in pencil, above is the name Darwin Olney written in pen, which was most likely written at a later date by a relative. We researched the muster rolls and indeed Pvt. Olney served 3 years, 1862-65, in this unit. Copy of his service history is provided, along with the paper, Also included in the lot is a Enlisted infantryman's belt equipped with Model 1839 "US" belt plate. The leather belt is attached to a die-struck rolled brass Model 1839 "US" plate lead filled with arrow belt hooks. brass belt keeper attached. very good condition. This lot came together from a collector in Ohio.
