69 caliber, 42& #34; round barrel, NSN. Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket, brown barrel with three barrel bands, breech stamped US NWP above P, tang dated 1835, round and faceted lock plate marked US Johnson with eagle motif and dated 1835 Middn Conn., in crescent form. Faint visible marking of cartouche on left side of stock. Estimated that 600 were between 1829-1834, this appears to be a type 3 configuration. This musket has been reconverted with replaced hammer, pan, frizzen, frizzen spring. Barrel retains a deep added brown finish during the period. The lock has a deep brown patinated look with sharp and crisp markings. The stock has been clean in its lifetime with sharp edges and lines. Overall a very good example of this rare contract musket.
