U.S. Musket by Springfield dated 1836 with an arsenal conversion showing the nipple screwed directly into the barrel and replaced percussion hammer. The musket is .69 caliber, 58” in total length and has a 42”barrel. The metal is good with some brown showing in mottled patina on the barrel and minor pitting with erosion. Good lock markings, the stock shows an oval cartouche. There is scattered fresh rod rust and lighterosion that will mostly clean. Correct ram rod with good action, the stock is good plus with some deep scratches and mars but a full cartouche. The butt is very rusty with color rust. The type of musket used by both sides at the outset of the war. Est.: $500-$1,000. (Antique).
