U.S. Springfield Model 1884 trapdoor rifle, .45-70 caliber, Serial #478344. The rifle is in excellent to near mint overall condition with a 32” barrel with a ramped blade front and military tangent style rear sights. Therifle has barrels band swivels and a correct ram rod. The metal surfaces retain nearly all of the original blue finish with vivid case coloring on the breech block. The barrel has various proofs and acceptancemarks at the breech and a sharp eagle on the side plate. The smooth wood stock is in excellent condition with a crisp cartouche dated 1889 at the left wrist and a Circle P behind the trigger guard. The butt stockends with a smooth, steel crescent butt plate. The bore is bright, the action is crisp and the markings are very sharp. It would be difficult to improve on this impressive trapdoor.
