30 CARBINE USING REMINGTON MODEL 1903 A3 BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30 Carb. S# 3432335. Bbl. 4-grooved 18-1/4" in the white stamped on top “30” “CAL. CAR.” “WALKER” “C407” & “BB”. Marked on top in electro pencil “RIFLE ACCURACY CAL 30 CARB D45650”. Mid section of bbl. measures approx. 1-1/2" in dia. reduced over chamber & at forward end for 2-7/8" to approx.1-3/16" dia. No sights are fitted. These accuracy test devices were named for famed ballistics experimenter Dr. Franklin W. Mann & used his system of a massive bbl. fitted w/ concentric rings to slide in a “V” rest to test the accuracy of ammunition. These devices were used by both Army Ordnance & commercial ammunition plants including Frankford Arsenal, Springfield Armory & Winchester Repeating Arms dealing w/ government contract ammunition production. Unmarked cutoff. Lg. bow Remington stamped trigger guard. Walnut stock w/ 2 recoil bolts. Wood has been removed forward of receiver ring & behind grip leaving approx.12-3/8" in action area. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching military shipping bag marked w/ “FSN-1005-BF1-0117” & “SEPT 1971”. Padded cardboard shipping box from CMP. CONDITION: bbl. has scattered handling marks & spots of light oxidation plus several sm. areas of white paint. Receiver & bolt retain lg. degree of original finish w/ light wear. Stock has very little finish w/ wear & handling marks. Near excellent shiny bore. (22-4378/RW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
