UNMARKED HALF-STOCK TARGET PERCUSSION SCHUETZEN
RIFLE. Cal. .45. S# NSN. Bbl 32 1/4". Lockplate is unmarked. Damcascus barrel appears to be stamped "DESTONES" at the breech, with part of the text being illegible. Left side of stock bears a German silver inlaid shield escutcheon that is engraved "D.W.". Full length heavy barrel featuring a globe front sight, with tang mounted aperture rear sight. Checkered wood half-stock featuring a small unmarked rectangular octagon German silver escutcheon, with a horn nose cap, as well as a schhuetzen pattern buttplate and trigger guard. Rifle retains what appears to be a proper period brass ramrod with wood knob end. CONDITION: Lockplate and cock retain mottled gray patina, with some areas of light pitting. Barrel exhibits moderat edge wear, with a couple small scattered spots of pitting, but is otherwise very good. Stock shows a some scattered handling marks, a few hairline cracks, as well as some losses along the right side of the barrel channel. Left half of horn nosecap is not present. An extremely attractive half-stock heavy barrel percussion target rifle. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22503/MLW). ANTIQUE. $700-900.
