UNUSUAL BRITISH COMMERCIAL FLINTLOCK OFFICER’S

FUSIL BY CLARK & YORK. Cal. 77. NSN. Bbl. 39" rnd w/ bayonet stud/front sight bead 1 1/4" from muzzle. Breech section has larger diameter reinforce for the last 5/8". Left side of bbl. stamped w/ London gun maker’s & view proofs. Top of bbl. engraved “LONDON - I – W – YORK – M”, most likely John York, son of Charles York, working 1755-1784. Rnd. bodied slightly arched sm. size (6”) lock features serpentine cock, integral rounded pan, bridled roller frizzen & feather spring w/ peg finial. Center of lock engraved “CLARK”, most likely John # 5 (Blakemore) working 1766-1798. Walnut stock extends to w/ in 4 1/2" of muzzle & has thin brass reinforcing band at tip & attaches to bbl. w/ 3 captive side bolts w/ out escutcheons. Unusual furniture is of brass including sm. simple triggerguard bow which attaches to trigger plate & a simple cast buttplate w/ bell shaped finial which is engraved “LI50” (Light Infantry 50th Regt.). Sideplate is not present & lock screws seat in circular brass escutcheons. A button head steel ramrod mounts through 2 closely set flared pipes, 1 beaded mid pipe & matching thimble. The only identifying marks on stock are the initials “ID” on left side. CONDITION: very good to fine. Iron parts cleaned to mostly pewter gray w/ some scattered pinprick pitting. Brass nicely toned to mustard brown. Stock w/ most of what appears to be original oil finish has numerous marks, knocks & dings but there is fine hand worn patina at grip & forepiece.
