US MILITARY HATS, HELMETS & PARTS.
1) NAVY. WWII era US Navy “Donald Duck” style hat. Cap tally reads “U.S. NAVY”. Interior sweat shield. CONDITION: hat shows notable mothing.
2) NAVY. A late 19th century US Navy Chief Petty Officer’s cap. Cap has a dark blue wool crown with a black mohair band. Band has a round cap eagle resembling a naval officer’s button. Leather chinstrap & visor. Interior is marked “MADE FOR THE U.S. NAVAL CLOTHING FACTORY BY BERG BROS. 2023-27 WOOSTER ST. N.Y.” CONDITION: hat generally shows light wear. Visor & chinstrap are a bit discolored.
3) MARINES. A reproduction M1859 Marine Corps shako. Shako has a black felt covered body with leather crown, band & visor. Heavily gilded front plate & wreath with Marine Corps bugle. Pompom is brass and in the shape of an acorn. Interior label reads “W.C.DARE, MANUFACTURER 21 North Second St. PHILA.”. CONDITION: shako shows very light wear.
4) MARINES. A late 19th century Marine Corps shako with a dark blue felt body with vent hole in the crown. Shield front plate with central EGA. Chinstrap is terminated by small Marine Corps buttons. Leather visor. Large interior label “CHAS. F. BUSH, CONTRACT OF 1890, MILITARY, NAVAL GOODS, AND ALL KINDS OF Society Regalia, 387 WASHINGTON STREET, BOSTON.” Hat is equipped with a small red spherical pompom. CONDITION: shako remains quite strong but shows areas of significant mothing.
5) ARTILLERY. A M1872 militia artillery shako. Shako has a felt covered body with black leather crown, chinstrap & visor. The front has a M1851 false embroidered crossed cannon. The side buttons are federal shields. There is a woven red cord attached to the helmet. A large interior label reads “FROM SCHUYLER, HARTLY & GRAHAM, Manufacturers of and Dealers in Military Goods, 19 Maiden Lane, NEW-YORK.” CONDITION: helmet generally shows light wear overall.
6) MILITIA. An M1872 Michigan militia shako. Shako has a felt covered body with black leather crown, chinstrap & visor. The front has a M1872 Michigan state seal plate. Side buttons show a hunting horn. Wool pompom has truncated form. Large interior label reads “FROM SCHUYLER, HARTLY & GRAHAM, Manufacturers of and Dealers in Military Goods, 19 Maiden Lane, NEW-YORK.”. CONDITION: helmet shows light to moderate wear overall. Sweatband is quite tattered.
7) MILITIA. A Civil War Period French import militia shako of all leather construction. Large eagle front plate with central hunting horn. Above the front plate is a red, white & blue painted metal cockade. No pompom. CONDITION: shako shows light to moderate wear overall.
8) PLUME. An unissued yellow cavalry plume wrapped in paper with a label that reads “Edward Eicke Contract Feb. 10th 1902 New York”. CONDITION: unissued.
9) AIGUILETTE. A bright orange aiguilette with waffles & tassels as used by the 1st pattern M1881 Signal Corps plumed helmet. CONDITION: light wear. PROVENANCE: From the Raymond Darida Estate. (02-18035-6/BF). $1,000-1,600.
