BY S. NORTH.Cal. 52 multigroove rifling. NSN. The Hall was the first production firearm made with total interchangability of parts. Around 20,000 were made by Harper's Ferry and just a few less than 6,000 were made by North. This rifle is in standard configuration with 32 1/2" bbl. affixed to stock by three spring retained bands. Large forged receiver has breech block which pivots at rear allowing for muzzle loading of the breech block with paper cartridges. Breechblock is marked "U.S." "S. NORTH" "MIDLtn CONN" "1833", and remains in original flint configuration. Iron mounted walnut stock has uniquely shaped trigger guard with large bow and long spur at rear forming grip. Inspector's initials are in cartouche on left side of rear of breech area. CONDITION: very good, metal parts retaining some of their original brown finish under considerable rusting and speckling which has been cleaned back to gray brown. Stock retains most of its original oil finish with scattered marks. Bore is bright. Mechanically good. Stock appears sound without noted major cracks or repairs. (01-21210/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-4,000.
