This sextant appears to be mfg. from brass w/ a black finish. The moveable arm is marked "U.S. NAVY, BUREAU SHIPS / MARK II", followed by encircled "N". The serial number "2290" is followed by "1941". Additional markings include "PIONEER INSTRUMENT DIVISION OF BENDIX AVIATION / BENDIX, NEW JERSEY". The wooden case, which appears to be made from mahogany, contains a collimation certificate from the Naval Observatory which includes a date of "MAY 28TH. 1948". The case also contains two screwdrivers, the three power eyepiece, spare lenses & a brass adjusting key. The lockable case which includes the original key has the original nomenclature plate, which includes the date. CONDITION: the instrument has light wear & scattered small handling marks. Markings are somewhat faded. Optics appear clear & serviceable. Wooden case has moderate wear, scratches & handling marks commensurate w/ service in a seagoing environment. (02-23729/RW).
