Unique American Brass Framed Tip-Up Single-Shot Cartridge Rifle, by P. Percy, Albany, NY, NVSN, .45 CF cal., 26'' octagonal steel barrel, dovetailed blade front sight, adjustable ladder rear sight. Solid brass (or bronze) one-piece frame with removable left sideplate; skeleton-style extensions completely enclose the two-piece walnut buttstock. Likely a prototype, as barrel is unmarked and unfinished (left bright). Unusual mechanism consisting of double triggers: rear trigger cocks internal striker while front trigger fires the cartridge. Brass triggerguard with separate extension in front protecting the barrel release lever. The only markings are ''P Percy / Albany N.Y.'', the maker's name and city struck with individual die letters; ''N.Y.'' a single stamp. A smaller ''J'' appears just ahead at the breech. Condition is fine with possibly unfinished smooth and lightly toned steel and light age patina to brass. Wood is near fine showing a few dings but retaining most original varnish. A genuine enigma, and probably a one-of-a-kind inventor's prototype rifle. Est: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)
