.44 cal, 20'' octagon barrel with slightly swamped muzzle and an about good bore showing some moderate oxidation in the grooves and otherwise strong rifling throughout. This endearing little rifle is an old reconversion to flint and the metal surfaces are mostly a deep plum-brown patina showing old oxidation and the barrel with what appears to be a very old blackened finish. The lock is rather simple and shows some gaps around the stock inletting, equipped with a bridled frizzen and the screws with some slot wear. The walnut stock remains in very good condition showing a repaired break through the wrist that was well-done, scattered thin drying cracks and other old dings. There are nice little foliate carvings atop the wrist and around the squared-off left-side cheekpiece and the stock features an attractive bone nosecap with decorative grooves, sliding patch cover on the right side, mother-of-pearl inlays along the cheekpiece that show some light flaking but are mostly intact. The remaining fittings are of brass consisting of: two ramrod thimbles, tailpipe, triggerguard with foliate finial, buttplate with foliate heel finial and pierced foliate toe plate, decorative foliate lock screw escutcheons and a heart-shaped plate atop the wrist. What is likely the original bone-tipped ramrod is present, there is a filled hole along the toe line and only a wide front sling swivel. The rifle is sighted with a fine v-notch rear sight and brass blade front and the lock is not very crisp but functional. A nice diminutive jaeger or stalking rifle.
