Unusual European Single-Shot Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol, NVSN, approx. .60 cal., pin-retained 9.875'' round barrel bells to 1.875'' at cannon-turned muzzle, has unusual turning/grooved marks (to resemble twisted steel?) along its full length but is otherwise unmarked; military-style rounded lockplate with teat at rear shows a bear silhouette ahead of reinforced flint cock; brass furniture includes loop trigger guard with long-finial tangs and buttplate with stepped top tang; varnished hardwood fullstock has checkering at wrist, a carved pronghorn-type antelope head along belly, raised cheekpiece with circular flower motif at rear, and steel lanyard loop at left side. Overall length is 20.25''. Mfg'd ca. 1790-1825. Pistol appears to be in original flintlock configuration, with unbushed touchhole and original parts. Condition is very good, the steel parts showing no original finish but an overall deep brown patina, brass moderately age-toned. Stock is solid and smooth with good checkering and carvings, a minor wood loss behind lock teat, light marks, and most original varnish. Action is very strong; smoothbore shows deep black powder etching. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)(John Ackerman collection)
