VERY EARLY BARRETT MODEL M82, .50 CALIBER RIFLE.
Cal. 50BMG. S# 0219. Bbl. 33.5". The only place that the Barrett Model M82 is larger then the roles it plays on the big screen is surprisingly enough in real life. The brain child of Ronnie Barrett, the M82 came to life in 1982 w/ the M82A1 making its debut in 1986. By 1990 it was destined to be a permanent fixture in US service, having seen time in every conflict since. Chambered in the massive .50BMG (12.7x99 NATO) cartridge utilizing a short recoil, rotating bolt, semi automatic action. Weighing in at almost 40 lbs. & just under 61" in length the iconic Short Recoil Semi Automatic (SRSA) plays a primary roll as anti material rifle w/ a secondary task of long distance explosive ordinance disposal (EOD). It utilizes a 33.5" heavy bbl. that recoils upon firing, terminated w/ a 2.5", 4 chamber muzzle break to help dampen felt recoil. It possesses a 5.5" Weaver base for optic mounting. Rounds are fed from a detachable 12 rd. mag. Matte black finish on all exposed metal surfaces. The integral receiver/stock terminates at the rear w/ a soft black rubber recoil pad while the front section incorporates a steel bipod, largely resembling the one utilized on the M60 GPMG. MAGS: 1 steel 12rd. CONDITION: Recently refurbished by Barrett w/ new barrel rings & test fired. Since it is such an early gun they recommend no more than 100 rounds per year for service moving forward. Original finish on exposed metal surfaces is complete and consistent showing only light signs of use such as thinning on areas of mechanical intervention & light thinning on some high spots Right side, forward of chamber is a small black stain, appearing to be a hardened liquid of some sort. Bore is bright w/ some fouling on close inspection, though retaining strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (24-3760/JZ). MODERN. $6,000-9,000.
