VERY FINE CONFEDERATE BOWIE BAYONET, COOK AND

BROTHERS NEW ORLEANS. 17 1/2" Overall, 12 1/2" clip point hollow ground blade. Much has been written about these knives w/ unfinished brass muzzle rings originally ordered by Confederate General Charles Dahlgren, the brother of Union admiral John Dahlgren who designed the “Dahlgren Bowie Bayonet”. This is among the finest examples of this knife w/ bright polished blade & complete scabbard w/ sewn belt loop. This example would be difficult, if not impossible, to upgrade. CONDITION: fine to very fine overall. Blade retains virtually all its original polish & luster, brass has uncleaned medium mustard patina. Grip retains virtually all of its original finish. Sheath is sound & complete w/ moderate edge wear & scuffing. The original sewn belt loop is complete, retaining much of its original finish. PROVENANCE: pictured on pg. 205 “Accouterments IV” by James R. Johnston. (02-15874/JS). $3,000-4,000.
