LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH UNIT MARKED HOLSTER. Cal. 9x19mm. S# 291. Bbl. 4". P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM in early 1916. The bbl. extension is marked "1916" over the top of the chamber, with DWM arsenal proofs present on the right. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Rear of frame exhibits an "F", which was added with punch dots. Major metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting either a straw or nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the grips. Mag. is an Imperially proof, unserialized replacement. MAGS: 2 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: reworked LP.08 pattern brown leather holster stamped "A. Dittmar/ Berlin/ 1916" on the front of the body, beneath the closure flap. Rear of holster body is stamped "9745.", above a partially defaced "M.400". The closure flap is a period replacement (likely added when the holster was reworked) and is marked a partially visible ink stamp on the interior, with legible characters appearing to read "A.R./ 1915". Holster contains an aluminum bottom mag. and loading tool, which are both matching to the holster via "9745". CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original blue finish, exhibiting some light to mild wear (primarily around edges), with scattered spots of light surface oxidation present overall. Muzzle exhibits a few spots of moderate pitting, with the front sight exhibiting some surface oxidation overall. Strawed components exhibit varying degrees of wear that show through to gray patina and scattered spots of age related discoloration. Very bright bore, exhibiting some light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips are very good, exhibiting some smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial handling marks overall. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting scattered marks from handling and storage, as well as areas of age related cracking, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Straps retention strap's stitching on closure flap has torn on the right side. (24-5591/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
