VERY RARE 28 GAUGE PARKER AHE WITH 28 BARRELS.
Cal. 28 Ga. S# 197129. Bbl. 28". “The Parker Story” relates that a total of 11 AH guns were made in 28 Ga., only 4 with 28" barrels. The Identification and Serialization ledger lists this gun with 28" barrels as having ejectors and a caped pistol grip stock. Barrels are marked with Parker’s famous Meriden CT. address and “ACME Steel” on narrow concave matted rib, fitted with ivory beads. All correct factory markings are on barrel flats and lumps with rear lump marked for 28 Ga. and “00” frame. Small size action has lightening cuts on water table along with all correct factory markings. Action is filed with single bead around fences and top lever has chevron. Action also features automatic safety and gold plated miller nonselective single trigger. Engraving consists of near full coverage, varying size scroll within scroll and geometric borders. This well done scroll surrounds small circular vignettes of dogs on sides with setter and pointer in marshy background on left and the same dogs on hillside on right. “PARKER BROS.” is in rectangle in front of each dog scene. More scroll is on bottom of action and trigger plate is engraved with semi relief scene of a group of quail at the edge of a marsh. Blued trigger guard has small scroll with floral highlights on bow and serial number on tang. Straight grip buttstock made of a very fine piece of flesh toned, classically streaked and fiddle figured European walnut measures 14 1/2" over skeleton steel buttplate. The stock appears to have been sourced from A1 Special #241000 as this number and grade number “8” are stamped in wood under trigger guard tang, inside of tang is also stamped “241000”. The identification ledger lists this number as an A1 Special with unspecified grip, but as a 12 Ga. Stock has late style “A1 Special” ribbons and acanthus carving in closely spaced checkering of side panels and fancy borders and carving to exposed wood of butt. Checkering is of correct style as well. A gold oval with geometric border on toeline has had initials removed. Newly made American walnut long beaver tail ejector forend has correct style boss at tip of forend iron and reinforcing screw. Ejector patent date is on iron. Checkering and carving is not up to the quality of buttstock. MEASUREMENTS: Bore diameter: Left .554, Right .554. Bore restriction: Left .016 (Mod), Right .013 (Light Mod). Wall thickness: Left .025, Right .026. DAH: 1 15/16". DAC: 1 7/16". Cast: 0. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 8oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: tan leather case with stitched leather corners, has reddish canvas leather trimmed outer cover. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth and has Parker label in lid. Case contains a square oil bottle and key. CONDITION: fine as refinished and partially reconditioned. Barrels retaining over 95% of good quality reblue, engraving slightly softened. Action retains most of a light recolor; engraving has lost its sharpness. Buttstock has nearly all of an oil refinish with a few light marks; checkering recut. Forend retains nearly all of its original finish with some lifting. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time. Trigger works well. Case is very fine, close to “as new” with some minor scuffs on outer cover and some compressions in interior cloth. (21-1619/MGM). CURIO. $15,000-25,000.
