VERY RARE CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE CARBINE CARTRIDGE

BOX FOR A RICHMOND ROBINSON SHARPS CARBINE WITH 4 ROUNDS FOUND IN THE BOX. An exceptionally rare, Confederate carbine box likely manufactured at the Richmond Arsenal to accompany the Robinson Sharps carbine. This unique style box measures approximately 7" x 2 1/2" not including the belt loops and the securing tab. It has a total of 16 individual tin tubes on the inside to contain cartridges. The body of the box is brown leather with all seams and joints being sewn. The closing finial is lead as normally seen on Confederate boxes. Upon discovery, the box contained 3 linen wrapped cartridges for the Robinson Confederate Sharps along with a conical Sharps bullet with no wrapping. All Confederate cartridges boxes are considered rare, but this example represents the rarest of the rare and is absent in even the most advanced Confederate accoutrement collections. CONDITION: the brown leather remains in exceptional condition with minor crazing but no flaking observed. The stitching is still strong and there are no open seams. All tin tubes are present. The closing tag is flexed but unbroken. Belt loops are completely intact. The lead finial is a bit loose but quite secure. 2 Cartridges are complete and 1 is missing part of the linen. (02-17891/BF). $3,000-4,000.
