SPRINGFIELD BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE W/ MODEL 1905 BAYONET. Cal. 30-06. S# 85293. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight “SA” “flaming bomb” & “10-06”. Rifle produced in 1906 as indicated by S# & bbl. date w/ correct features. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards w/ volley notch. Sm. dished, grooved & knurled elevation & windage knobs. Blade front sight w/ unmarked blued steel sheet metal sight cover. Bayonet lug is not marked w/ “H”. Bolt is marked under safety lug w/ “1” & “M”. Bolt & extractor have gas escape holes. Safety & cutoff have serif letters. All milled furniture. Smooth narrow trigger. Smooth trap buttplate. Matching walnut stock set. Stock is marked on left side over trigger guard w/ boxed “E.L.H.” in block letters. Marked under grip w/ encircled script “P” proof. Stock tip is marked w/ tiny “s”. Stock has high wood along receiver. No recoil bolts. Handguard w/ sight protection swell w/o sighting groove made w/o metal clips. “Rock Island” marked 1907 sling. Markings are faint but include “Rock Island Arsenal” “190?” & “C.H.T.” Sling has extensive wear, scuffing & cracking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel-plated brass oiler. Model 1905 bayonet w/ 16" fullered bright blade. Partially blued Ricasso marked on left side “SA” “flaming bomb” & “1906”. Marked on right side w/ “U.S.” & S#. Grooved walnut grips. First type Model 1905 scabbard. Visible markings include “R.I.A.” “1_06” & “H.S.K”. Blade is shiny w/ sm. spots of peppery oxidation. Balance of metal has traces of blue turning gray & patina. Grips are well worn w/ handling marks. Leather scabbard w/ steel throat has wear, scuffing & handling marks throughout. Stitching is loose at scabbard tip. Markings partially obscured by abrasion. Scabbard metal parts turning gray & patina. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, scratches & handling marks commensurate w/ long service. Approx. 1-1/2" crack behind receiver tang & 2" crack w/ missing sliver on left side of forend behind upper band. Handguard has long crack extending approx. 5" between rear sight & lower band. Metal has traces of original blue but is turning generally gray w/ patina. Buttplate has notably oxidized appearance. Good shiny bore w/ lightly worn lands.
