VERY RARE & FINE MCCORMICK PATTERN 1798 HORSEMAN’S

FLINTLOCK PISTOL. Cal. 64. NSN. 16.25” overall, 10.25” barrel proofed at breech “US” & eaglehead over “P” in sunken cartouche. The long rebated lock by Ketland marked at tail vertically “UNITED / STATES”. Brass furniture and full length walnut stock, proofed “US” and “MCCORMICK” opposite lock. There are a handful of these elegant pistols of same configuration known assembled at Schuylkill Arsenal, all are known as “McCormick pistols” but no more 4 or 5 assembled by Robert McCormick of Philadelphia and marked “MCCORMICK” such as this one. This is beautiful survivor and considered among the best of all these horseman pistols. CONDITION: very good to Fine overall, appears original and complete, gray iron patina, brass toned to light mustard patina, mechanically fine, smooth clear bore. Inset repair to stock forward of lock. Ramrod has steel cleaning tip.
