(cyq) VG2 BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 2706A. This very rare "last ditch" rifle was an innovative design mfg. in late World War II. It reflects Germany"s desperate need for for small arms for both regular forces & the rapidly forming Volkssturm. The Volkssturm was a German National militia organized in Oct. 1944, which included the over & under aged & those recovering from wounds. The rifle was designed & mfg. to reduce costs, machine time & the use of high grade materials. Despite rough war time finish on all parts, rifle appears to be a serviceable design. Bbl. likely a salvaged M.G. bbl. marked on top ahead of receiver w/ non matching S#, 3 drop wing eagle "2"s, 1 drop wing eagle "4", "K" in shield & German Eagle proof. Receiver is marked on left side "VG2 cyq"& S#. Right side of receiver stamped "chd". Numbers match on receiver & bolt handle. Notched rear sight is mounted on front of receiver & is drift adj. for windage. Blade front sight formed from sheet metal w/ integral protective hood. Rifle is mfg. using sheet metal stampings, rivets & spot welds where possible. Receiver produced as a flat sheet metal stamping, which was formed over a rnd. mandrel to accommodate the bolt. Locking is accomplished by opposed front lugs engaging metal insert in receiver ring & by bolt handle engaging deep slot in receiver bridge. Has side swinging safety inside trigger guard bow. Receiver made to accommodate 10 rd. K43 mag. 2 Piece hardwood stock riveted permanently to receiver. Rifle has correct vintage sling. Steel cup buttplate. Non removable stacking rod. MAGS: 1 detachable 10 rd. K43 mag. marked "gcb eagle WaA 892". CONDITION: stock set receiver little finish during mfg. w/ tool & sanding marks. Has light wear & staining. Metal has 85% original blue black finish w/ light wear, scattered scratches & handling marks. Stacking rod tip has loss of finish. Sling has wear & scuffing. Near excellent shiny bore. (20-910/RW).
